Ana Ivanovic vs Sorana Cirstea
Ivanovic will face her good friend Sorana in first round of Western & Southern Open. Ana’s year was her best since 2008 and she’s playing pretty good. However, she lost last week to Coco, but I think that Ana was just tired.Sorana’s year was poor and now she is no. 80. Sorana is just attacking without some plan and often she beats herself. I think that Ana will destroy Sorana, literally.
Prediction: Ivanovic in 2 sets
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Dominika Cibulkova
Dominica played superb before Kuala Lumpur. After that, she just disappeared. She lost more matches than she won. Against hard-hitting Pavlyuchenkova, it won’t be easy task for Dominika. She need to stay aggressive and accurate, but she wasn’t really accurate in last couple of months.Anastasia played fantastic match last week against eventual finalist Venus Williams and I believe she will carry her good form against slumping Cibulkova.
Prediction: Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets
Samantha Stosur vs Varvara Lepchenko
Samantha isn’t really in form of her life. She lost in Stanford to Naomi Osaka( player who wasn’t in top 400). I think that her days of good form are over. Unlike Stosur, Lepchenko is in pretty good form. She reached SFs in Stanford, beaten Radwanska and almost beaten Kerber( she held match point) along the way. Samatha may can take a set, but victory belongs to Varvara.
Prediction: Lepchenko in 3 sets
Klara Koukalova vs Taylor Townsend
Veteran Koukalova playing against rising star Townsend. Klara will try to be aggressive and not to let Taylor come to the net. Young American have powerful all-round game, while Klara’s game is one-sided. However, Taylor is capable of making silly errors and if Klara can overpower Taylor from the baseline she can take the victory. Townsend have good hands at the net and good slice, but I think that Klara is just too powerful. Upset is possible, but I think that experience will win this match.
Prediction: Koukalova in 3 tight sets
