Cincinnati 2014 – day 3

Angelique Kerber vs Ekaterina Makarova

Ekaterina+Makarova+KDB+Korea+Open+Day+3+uKppas-2YDvlAegon International - Day Five

Both ladies are in good form. I think that this will be very interesting encounter. Makarova will be the aggressor in this match. She will attack patiently and waiting for her chances. However, Kerber will chase down everything and she’ll try to counter Ekatarina’s attacks.Makarova will need to play very calm if she wants to beat German counter-puncher. Unfortunately for her, I think that Kerber will be the one who is winning this epic battle.

Prediction: Kerber in tight 3 sets

Flavia Pennetta vs Taylor Townsend

Taylor really surprised me in her last match against Koukalova. She managed to clinch the  match even though she didn’t use her match point at 5-4. She is really growing up in an good and dangerous player. Pennetta , however, barely managed to beat Chanelle Sheepers. After her run to the title in Indian Wells, she just disappeared. She’s barely winning matches after that. With Flavia’s lack of self-confidence and Taylor’s aggressive all-round game, I think that Townsend will score her first top 20 win.

Prediction: Townsend in 3 sets

Petra Kvitova vs Elina Svitolina

WTA Championships - Istanbul 2011 - Day Oneelina-svitolina-1

After Wimbledon, i thought that Petra will become player that everyone wanted her to be. However, Petra is just Petra. After destroying Genie at Wimbledon final, she lost to Ekaterina Makarova in 3rd round of Montreal. Svitolina is playing best tennis of her young career. She won her second WTA title in Baku. This is huge achievement for teenager. Petra is, however, too strong for young Ukraine. With her powerful ground-strokes Petra will control the game. Only thing that Elina will be able to is to wait for her opponent to make mistakes. I don’t see how Kvitova can lose this.

Prediction: Kvitova in 2 sets (one tight, one easy)

Sara Errani vs Sabine Lisicki

This two players are probably meant to play against each other. They met last week when Sabine won in 2 sets. Sara’s passive and patient game is maybe effective on the clay, but hard courts are different story. Sabine will exploit Sara’s lack of power with her powerful flat ground-strokes. In their last match, Lisicki showed that she knows how to mix the game with drop shots and net play. I think that this will be one comfortable win for Lisicki.

Prediction: Lisicki in 2 sets
