Analysis of the previous day:
~Peng Shuai beaten Agnieszka Radwanska in a high-quality match. Peng had her tactic – She played aggressive, but not too risky; She was defending with moonballs and she was surprising Radwanska with drop shots. Shuai really played amazing and inspired. I’m hoping that this win will give her confidence and that she’ll reach QFs of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
~Johanna Larsson beaten Sloane Stephens 5:7 6:4 6:2. Johanna played solid, but Sloane made too much unforced errors.
~Lucie Safarova survived Saisai Zheng. She managed to stay calm and she beaten quick moonballler Zheng 6:3 4:6 6:2.
~Andrea Petkovic survived Monica Puig. She came back from 1-4 and two breaks down to eventually win this in tiebreak. Andrea won 3:6 6:3 7:6(5).
~Maria Sharapova survived Alexandra Dulgheru 4:6 6:3 6:2. Sharapova didn’t play great, but it was interesting match.
Now…Prediction time! 🙂
Eugenie Bouchard vs Sorana Cirstea
Both players played amazing in their first round matches. Sorana beaten Watson 6:1 6:1. I haven’t seen her playing that well in a while. Bouchard beaten Govortsova 6:2 6:1. This match should be interesting. Sorana is more powerful than Eugenie and she’s playing more risky. If Sorana can play aggressive and consistent, she have a chance. Eugenie takes the ball early and she can put a lot of pressure on her opponent. If Sorana can make Bouchard move around the court, she can beat her. However, I don’t think that Cirstea will be able to play well for the whole match, so the edge belongs to Bouchard.
Prediction: Bouchard in 3 sets
Victoria Azarenka vs Christina McHale
Even thought Azarenka barely beaten Doi, she played well. She fought to the bitter end and she won. Christina struggles against Sheepers, eventually winning that match 6:2 1:6 7:6(5). Azarenka will be the aggressor in this match. She’ll keep attacking until she breaks Christina’s good defensive skills. Azarenka will exploit Christina’s main weakness – her backhand. McHale have a good topspin forehand that can cause some damage. She should switch her normal backhand with slice backhand in this match. That would slow down Azarenka a little bit. This will be close match, but Azarenka is Grand Slam champion and former world no. 1, so I believe she’ll win this.
Prediction: Azarenka in 3 tight sets
Flavia Pennetta vs Shelby Rogers
Flavia Pennetta beaten Goerges 6:3 4:6 6:1 in the first round. Goerges made too much unforced errors, but Pennetta played solid. Rogers beaten Zanevska 6:4 6:3. This will be interesting match. Penetta is playing solid tennis, with good balance of the offence and defence. This year was full of ups and downs for Penetta. Rogers is powerful hard-hitter and she’ll control the points for sure. If Rogers can play with consistency she can win this. This will be close match, but Pennetta is not playing that well in this moment, so I believe Shelby can cause an upset here.
Prediction: Rogers in 3 sets
Carla Suarez Navarro vs Coco Vandeweghe
In the first round, Carla beaten Tomljanovic 3:6 6:2 6:1. I’m glad that Ajla finally started challenging top players, for the first time since Roland Garros. Coco beaten Vekic 2:6 6:3 6:1. Carla is playing tennis with lot of variations. She have one-handed backhand, good slice, good net play… She can also hit good angles and she’s very quick around the court. Coco play aggressive, powerful and risky tennis. She have powerful serve which is her biggest weapon. Coco will control match with her powerful strokes. Here in the USA, she have a good chance to win this. Carla will fight, but Coco will win this.
Prediction: Vandeweghe in 2 very tight sets
DellAcqua df. Wang in 3 sets
Ivanovic df. Pliskova in 2 tight sets
Lepchenko df. Barthel in 3 tight sets
Erakovic df. Vesnina in 2 sets
Pavlyuchenkova df. Gibbs in 2 sets
Serena df. King in 2 sets
Zahlavova-Strycova df. Niculescu in 3 sets
Keys df. Krunic in 2 tight sets
Stosur df. Kanepi in 3 sets
Kvitova df. Cetkovska in 2 sets
Makarova df. Hercog in 2 sets
Bellis df. Diyas in 3 tight sets
