Moscow( left ) and Luxembourg( right )
~Lucie Safarova vs Irina Camelia Begu
Lucie had an amazing week. She played absolutely stunning against Tomljanovic and Kuznetsova. She hit a lot of aces(15) against Ajla in just two sets and lot of winners against Svetlana. Irina had great week too but mostly because of an open draw. She beaten Vekic, Makarova and Pironkova. Vekic isn’t really in form of her life, Makarova always play bad in Moscow and Pironkova’s weak forehand always let her down. Lucie’s powerful and unpredictable shots will allow her to control the game. With some steady shots and serves, Lucie shouldn’t have any problems here. She’ll exploit Irina’s weakness – her forehand. Irina won’t have a time to shot the ball with her backhand so I think that Safatova will win this comfortably.
Prediction: Safarova in 2 sets
~Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Katerina Siniakova
Pavs played great this week. She beaten Konjuh and Riske comfortably. However, she had all kinds of struggle against comeback player and fellow Russian Diatchenko but she managed to win that tight three-setter. Siniakova showed the world of what she’s capable of. She’s future star, that’s sure. She came through the 3 rounds of qualifying and then she easily beaten Vesnina and Mladenovic. In the QFs, she edged powerful Italian Giorgi in 3 really tight sets. Anastasia is the favorite here. With her powerful shots, good angles and some tricky drop shots, she should be able to win this. However, Siniakova showed a heart of the champion and she won’t go down without a fight. With her powerful and patient shots and with some good movement, she’ll test Anastasia’s ability to stay consistent in one match. Katerina will take a set, but Anastasia won’t allow her to reach the finals in Moscow.
Prediction: Pavlyuchenkova in 3 sets
~Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova vs Annika Beck
Barb had an amazing week. She beaten Soler-Espinosa, Van Uytvanck, Larsson and Barthel – all in straight sets! Annika played amazing too. She reached her 2nd straight final in Luxembourg and she didn’t drop a set too! She beaten Bacsinszky, Vinci, Mayr-Achleitner and Allertova. This match should be interesting. BZS in an all-round player with no major weaknesses. She’s mixing her tricks with her consistent game. She’s using lot of slices, dropshots and she goes to the net whenever she can. Annika play even more patient tennis. She’s very fast and she’s amazing in defense but she also can produce good and powerful winners from the baseline. Both played unbelievable well this week and this match is so hard to predict but I’ll chose Zahlavova-Strycova. She’s been more consistent this year and she loves to play on fast surfaces. Annika loves Luxembourg but I think she’ll be without a title again. Who knows, maybe Beck surprise us! 😉
Prediction: Zahlavova-Strycova in 3 tight sets
