Another long and exciting match. Radwanska came back from 1-5 and 3 match points down in 2nd set, but Sharapova eventually prevailed in 3rd set. That 2nd set that Agnieszka managed to win gave her a ticket to the SFs!
I don’t know what to say. Matches are impossible to predict. I don’t know how to write my predictions anymore. Today, Simona Halep beaten Serena Williams 6-0 6-2!!! Current world no. 1 played probably worst match ever but Simona played very solid. Williams just couldn’t find the court with her shots and her movement was poor, especially in the first set. Match between Serena and Simona is still haunting me. New era has come! Later that day, Ana Ivanovic defeated Eugenie Bouchard 6-1 6-3. It was great performance by Ana and again, poor performance by Bouchard. She played a little bit better than against Simona but Canadian was still far away from her best. Today I’ll do short predictions without pictures because I’m not ready to write my full predictions yet. Serena vs Halep really proved me that matches are IMPOSSIBLE to predict. I’m hoping that I’ll be right about these 3 matches. I’ll write my standard predictions tomorrow. Thank you for reading my blog and for supporting me. Love y’all ! 🙂
~Agnieszka Radwanska df. Caroline Wozniacki in 3 sets — This is really risky pick but I’ll believe in Aga this time. She played amazing against Petra and she have a chance to win this match too. Caro played very solid against Maria but Radwanska won’t defeat herself like Sharapova. Wozniacki can win this but I’m choosing Agnieszka this time!
~Maria Sharapova df. Petra Kvitova in 3 tight sets — Maria played bad against Wozniacki but she showed great fighting spirit and desire. Petra was far from her best but I think she’ll play better against Maria. Both are powerful but Maria is stronger mentally so I believe she’ll win this in the end. She’ll be extra motivated because she can become world no. 1 after this tournament!
~Serena Williams df. Eugenie Bouchard in 2 very tight sets — Something is telling me that Serena is still not done here. She played poor against Halep but she can bounce back against out-of-form Bouchard. Williams at least played good against Ivanovic. Eugenie played poor in both of her matches. I think that Serena will win but anything is possible. Maybe Serena have some injury or illness. Maybe Kerber will play this match instead of Serena. Who knows!? Probably no one.
Maria had fantastic season, especially on the clay courts. She won 4 titles( Stuttgart, Madrid, French Open and Beijing ) and reached 4 SFs( Brisbane, Paris, Miami and Cincinnati) . She had few shocking losses( Bacsinszky, Giorgi etc. ) but Sharapova had great year overall. Caro had a great year too. Before Wimbledon she wasn’t in great form but she was on fire after that. She won 1 title( Istanbul ); reached 2 finals( US Open and Tokyo ); 5 SFs( Dubai, Monterrey, Eastbourne, Cincinnati and Wuhan) and 2 QFs( Miami and Montreal). Wozniacki is now playing her best tennis again. Maria leads in their head-2-head but Caroline won their only match this year. Wozniacki beaten Sharapova in 4th round of the US Open 6-4 2-6 6-2. Sharapova will be the aggressor in this match. With her massive groundstrokes she will be able to control most of the rallies. She improved her movement a lot and she covers the baseline very well. She’s probably mentally strongest WTA player in this moment. Wozniacki is playing her defensive tennis very well but now she is able to be aggressive when she wants. She’s really fast and she have a really good serve. With some good net play, Caroline is a tricky opponent for Maria. This will be tight match but Maria will manage to win it in the end.
Prediction: Sharapova in 3 tight sets
Agnieszka Radwanska vs Petra Kvitova
Agnieszka’s season was full of ups and downs but she had some great results, especially before French Open. She won 1 title( Montreal ); reached 1 final( Indian Wells ); 4 SFs( Australian Open, Doha, Katowice and Madrid ) and 5 QFs( Miami, Stuttgart, Rome,Cincinnati and Seoul). She’s coming to Singapore with low confidence but maybe she can turn around her bad form here. Petra’s season before Wimbledon was forgettable but after that, she’s playing amazing. She won 3 titles( Wimbledon, New Haven and Wuhan ); reached 1 final( Beijing ); 2 SFs( Sydney and Madrid) and 3 QFs( Doha, Miami and Eastbourne ). She had a lot of shocking losses but she recovered well. Kvitova leads against Radwanska in their head-2-head 5-1 but their last match was last year. Radwanska is just powerless against really powerful hitters like Kvitova and Serena. Petra will play her standard risky game. Her massive serves and strokes will allow her to control almost every rally. She added some slices, drop shots and net play in her game and it’s very nice to see some tricks that will make Petra’s game even more effective. When she’s on, she’s unstoppable. But when she can’t find her shots, she’s very beatable. Aga is probably hoping that Petra will play her self-destructive game. Radwanska will try to disrupt Petra’s rhythm with her endless retrieving and some magical shots. Radwanska form is really questionable because her last losses were against Vinci, Garcia and Lepchenko. Playing well or not, I think that Petra won’t have any problems against Radwanska.
Prediction: Kvitova in 2 sets
BONUS!!! – Battle of WTA rising stars( Finals )
Monica Puig df. Saisai Zheng in super tie-break
~Serena Williams df. Ana Ivanovic 6-4 6-4 — Great match with lot of amazing rallies. Main difference was that Serena had 12 aces and 4 double faultsa while Ana had o aces and 7 double faults. Serena is hungry. She really wants this title!
~Simona Halep df. Eugenie Bouchard 6-2 6-3 — Solid match by Simona but Bouchard was totally out of her rhythm. Both had 11 winners but Halep had 11 unforced errors while Eugenie had 30! Very weak performance by Canadian.
Angelique had solid season, but she wasn’t really good at the US Open. She lost in the third round to Bencic 1:6 5:7. Kerber beaten Svitolina in the 2nd round 6:4 6:4 in Tokyo. Dominika finally started winning some matches and it looks like she’s back! She beaten Vandeweghe in the previous round 7:6(5) 7:5. Cibulkova leads against Kerber in their head-2-head 4-2, but Kerber won their last two matches in straight sets. Dominika will be the aggressor in this match. Her explosive shots will make Kerber run all over the court. Her forehand is especially good. Angelique will be mostly in defense. She’ll counter Dominika’s massive shots with her flat, but accurate shots. Kerber will chase down everything she can and she’ll force Dominika to commit unforced errors. Angelique can play really good in offense too. Both players still have a chance to play in Singapore and they’ll fight until the end. I think that Kerber will edge Dominika in the end.
Prediction: Kerber in 3 sets
Ana Ivanovic vs Lucie Safarova
Ana had amazing season, but she’s really struggling at the Grand Slams. She lost to Pliskova at the US Open in the 2nd round in straight sets. Ana was impressive in her last match. She beaten Azarenka in straight sets. Lucie had amazing season too, highlighted by her SF appearance at the Wimbledon. In the previous round, she beaten rising star Bencic after a comeback 3:6 6:4 6:2. Ivanovic is favorite here, but she’s playing against her nemesis. Lucie leads in their head-2-head 5-2. Ana won first two matches, but Lucie won last five! Both players are playing pretty aggressive. Ana’s main weapon will be her atomic forehand. She’ll use lot of variations in her game – slices, drop shots, net play and passing shots. Ana improved her movement a lot this year. Safarova will use her tricky serve and her unpredictable, but powerful shots to fight against Ivanovic. I’m not sure how this match will end, but I believe that Ivanovic will come trough.
Prediction: Ivanovic in 3 tight sets
Kaia Kanepi vs Maria Kirilenko
Kaia’s season wasn’t really good before Wimbledon, but after that she’s playing very well. She struggled against Krystina Pliskova in the previous round, but she managed to win that match 3:6 6:3 6:2. Maria’s season was destroyed by her injury, but she looks like she’s back now. She beaten Klara Koukalova in the 2nd round 6:7(4) 6:4 6:0. This match should be very interesting. Both players are playing aggressive, but Kaia is more powerful. With her massive groundstrokes and good serves she’ll control a lot of things. However, Maria won’t just sit down and watch how Kanepi is making winners. She’ll make some by herself. Maria will play patient and aggressive. But honestly, I don’t think that she’s ready to beat Kanepi. She needs more matches under her belt.
Prediction: Kanepi in 2 tight sets
Agnieszka Radwanska vs Varvara Lepchenko
Radwanska’s season was full of ups and downs. She lost in the second round of the US Open to Shuai Peng in straight sets. In the second round of Seoul, she gave Chanelle Sheepers a double-bagel. Lepchenko had solid season. She lost in the third round of the US Open to eventual champion Serena Williams 3:6 3:6, but it was very good match for Varvara. In the previous round, she beaten Han 7:5 6:1 after she saved set point in the first set. These two played once this year and Varvara actually won in three sets in Stanford. Radwanska will play her game. She’ll use her trick shots to disrupt Lepchenko’s rhythm and she’ll be very consistent as almost always. Lepchenko will play aggressive and her main weapon is that she’s playing with left hand. Agnieszka almost always struggles against lefties. However, I think that Radwanska will be more patient and steady and that she’ll win this match. Lepchenko won’t give Agnieszka an easy victory, so anything is possible.
Prediction: Radwanska in 3 sets
Muguruza df. DellAcqua in 2 sets( one tight, one easy )
Wozniacki df. Suarez Navarro in 3 sets
Ka.Pliskova df. Gibbs in 2 sets
Rybarikova df. McHale in 2 sets

Cornet df. Bacsinszky in 3 tight sets

Niculescu vs Kr.Pliskova( Niculescu – still playing in Guangzhou )
Sheepers vs Bacsinszky( Bacsinszky – still playing in Guangzhou )
Schmiedlova vs Wang ( Wang – still playing in Guangzhou )
~Marina Erakovic beaten Svetlana Kuznetsova in absolutely marathon 3:6 6:2 7:6(3). It was solid match from both players, especially for Erakovic. Svetlana double-faulted on the match point for Marina.
~Victoria Azarenka beaten Misaki Doi in tight three sets 6:7(3) 6:4 6:1. it was pretty interesting match. Victoria wasn’t on her best, but Misaki played pretty well.
~ 15-year old CiCi Bellis beaten Dominika Cibulkova 6:1 4:6 6:4. It was CiCi’s first top 100 and top 20 opponent. Match wasn’t streamed. Good win for young American. This was the upset of the tournament so far.
~Petra Kvitova destroyed Kristina Mladenovic. She lost just one game. Result was 6:1 6:0
~Serena Williams beaten fellow American Taylor Townsend 6:3 6:1. Serena played great. However, good experience for Townsend. This was her first top 10 opponent.
Now it’s time for today’s predictions! 😀
Agnieszka Radwanska vs Shuai Peng
Agnieszka played amazing against Fichman. She had 23 winners and just 6 unforced errors! Peng played very well against Zheng. This match will be interesting because both players are very unique. Agnieszka is capable of making drop shots from the behind the baseline and from the run! Her creative slices, lobs, drop shots, well-angled shots and her movement brought her to the top 5 of the tennis world. Radwanska should be careful because Peng is not a easy opponent. Peng plays powerful with her two-handed shots, she’s good at the net( she was no.1 in the doubles this year) and she knows to mix her game with drop shots. Peng won’t give Radwanska easy victory., but Aga will win in two sets. In two close sets!
Prediction: Radwanska in 2 tight sets
Jelena Jankovic vs Tsvetana Pironkova
Jankovic played amazing against Jovanovski. Her backhand was amazing and it all was backed-up with her forehand and movement. i love to see when JJ is playing aggressive like this. Tsvetana beaten Knapp in 2 sets. Tsvetana had solid year, winning her first title in Sydney, beating Errani, Kvitova and Kerber along the way, all in straight sets! Since that, Tsvetana played with ups and downs. Jankovic knows that Pironkova is not easy opponent. She need to control game with her backhand. Tsvetana, however, have good forehand slice and she can neutralise power of JJ’s forehand with it. Jelena must play patient and aggressive tennis if she wants to beat Pironkova. Tsvetana’s flat shots can cause a problem for Jelena, but she’ll win this match anyway.
Prediction: Jankovic in 2 sets
Alize Cornet vs Daniela Hantuchova
Alize had good year, full of amazing wins( against Serena- TWICE) and shocking loses( against Kontaveit). Daniela struggles with her form, she’s barely beating low-ranked opponents and that matches she won because she’s a fighter, not because she played well. Hantuchova only played well at the Roland Garros. This will be match with lot of long points. Alize will use her topspin forehand, good backhand, slices and drop shots to confuse Daniela. However, Hantuchova knows how to fight with that because of her experience. Alize’s fast running will make Daniela play to risky and that will mean a lot of errors for her. Hantuchova is a fighter, just like Alize, but she can only take a set, i don’t think she’ll be able to cause an upset here.
Prediction: Cornet in 3 sets( two easy sets for Cornet, one tight for Hantuchova)
Sloane Stephens vs Johanna Larsson
Since American tour started, Stephens is playing well. She lost both times to Jankovic in Montreal and Cincinnati. Larsson is playing her best tennis on the clay. This year wasn’t really good for her, except reaching 3rd of the Roland Garros, beating Kirilenko and Penetta along the way. Stephens will be more aggressive in this match and she’ll be the one who is deciding the points – with winner of with error. Johanna can make thing interesting if she have a good day. Her steady topspin shots can good weapon( if she’s not sending it on Sloane’s atomic forehand). However, Stephens is powerful and fast, so i don’t think that Johanna’s solid game will cause a problems for Stephens in her own country.
