TOP 5 matches from WTA Finals 2014!!!

~Top 5 matches!

5. Caroline Wozniacki df. Maria Sharapova 7-6(4) 6-7(5) 6-2

Very long and very interesting match. It wasn’t high-quality match, but it was very exciting and interesting! Sharapova kept coming back, but she was too tired in that third set.

4.Maria Sharapova df. Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5 6-7(4) 6-2

Another long and exciting match. Radwanska came back from 1-5 and 3 match points down in 2nd set, but Sharapova eventually prevailed in 3rd set. That 2nd set that Agnieszka managed to win gave her a ticket to the SFs!

3.Serena Williams df. Caroline Wozniacki 2-6 6-3 7-6(6)

Highest quality match of the tournament. It was tight and interesting, but Serena showed why she’s still world number 1. Really interesting match, but there are 2 more interesting matches!

2.Serena Williams df. Simona Halep 6-3 6-0

Serena beaten Simona to win WTA Finals for the 3rd consecutive time. Serena was just too good, but Simona was far from her best. This match was Serena’s revenge!

1.Simona Halep df. Serena Williams 6-0 6-2

This match is probably most interesting and surprising match of this tournament. Simona Halep destroyed Serena Williams in a weird match. Serena played very bad, but Simona was just too good!

WTA Finals in Singapore 2014 – Serena vs Simona, Eugenie vs Ana

Serena Williams vs Simona Halep

Serena played superb against Ivanovic. She won 6-4 6-4. Serena fired 12 aces and 4 double faults compared to Ana’s zero aces and 7 double faults. It was a high-quality match and both played well. Match was full of stunning rallies and amazing shots. Simona played really well against Bouchard. Eugenie made far too many errors but Simona was very calm and steady. Looks like she’s back on the top of her game.  This match is very exciting for me. Serena leads against Simona in their head-2-head 3-0 but their last match was in Cincinnati last year. Simona took away one set from Serena but it was in 2011 at Wimbledon.  Serena will play her extremely aggressive tennis and she’ll control most of the points with her massive serves and powerful groundstrokes. Against Ivanovic, Serena showed her hunger and desire to win title in Singapore so I believe that Williams will be extra motivated to win this match. Simona will play her consistent tennis. She’ll chase down everything she can and she’ll try to be aggressive from the baseline. Simona is playing very well in this moment but Serena is a whole new level. Halep will give her best but it won’t be enough to harm current world no. 1.

Prediction: Serena in 2 tight sets

Ana Ivanovic vs Eugenie Bouchard

Ana played very solid against Serena. She had problems with her serve but everything else was on her standard level. She dropped her serve in the end of both sets. Eugenie played on very low level against Halep. Maybe she had a problem with her injury, maybe she was nervous…Who knows! But if she continues to play on that level, she’ll stay winless in Singapore. Against in-form Ivanovic, she needs to play her best tennis. Bouchard leads against Ivanovic in their head-2-head 2-0. They played one of those matches at this year’s Australian Open in QFs. Eugenie won 5-7 7-5 6-2. Both are really aggressive and powerful. Ana’s biggest strength is, as always, her forehand. However, her forehand is nicely backed up with solid backhand, tricky slices, drop shots, net play and some defensive shots too. Bouchard  takes the ball early so Ana won’t have a lot of time to react. Eugenie is playing very risky and she’s dangerous opponent when she’s on. Honestly, I don’t think that Eugenie will beat Ana but Wozniacki and Radwanska proved that everything is possible. Ana was more consistent this year so I think she’ll win this match. It won’t be easy but she’ll score her 1st win in Singapore! 😉

Prediction: Ivanovic in 3 sets

Tuesday results:

~ Caroline Wozniacki df. Maria Sharapova 7-6(4) 6-7(5) 6-2 — It wasn’t high-quality match but it was really interesting. Maria kept coming back but in the end she was just too tired. I didn’t expect this result but all credit goes to Caroline! Well done! 🙂

~Agnieskza Radwanska df. Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-3 — Radwanska was at her magical best against Petra. She had some amazing shots and she was very consistent. Petra made a lot of errors but Agnieszka was just too solid. Well done! 🙂

~Monica Puig df. Saisai Zheng 6-4 6-3 — I wasn’t watching this match but well done Monica. She scored 4 wins at this rising stars event and she really deserved this trophy. She beaten Diyas, Rogers and Zheng( twice ). Well done Puig! 🙂

WTA Finals in Singapore 2014 – Serena vs Ana, Simona vs Eugenie

Serena Williams vs Ana Ivanovic

Serena had an amazing year. She won 6 titles this year( Brisbane, Miami, Rome, Stanford, Cincinnati and most important of all – US Open); reached 2 SFs( Dubai and Montreal) and 2 QFs( Madrid and Beijing). She had some shocking losses (to Cepelova, Cornet, Muguruza etc.) but she won 6 titles so that losses are basically irrelevant. Ana had a great year too. After few forgettable years she found her form again. She won 4 titles this year( Auckland, Monterrey, Birmingham and Tokyo); reached 2 finals( Stuttgart and Cincinnati); 2 SFs( Rome and Beijing) and 3 QFs( Australian Open, Madrid and Stanford). Ana is again dangerous opponent. Serena leads against Ivanovic in their head-2-head 7-1 but they had some really competitive matches this year. Actually, Ana won their first match this year in 4th round of the Australian Open 4-6 6-3 6-3. Then, Serena avenged her loss in Rome SFs with victory 6-1 3-6 6-1. Their next match was in Stanford QFs where Williams edged Ivanovic 2-6 6-3 7-5. Their last match was in Cincinnati finals where Serena won comfortably 6-4 6-1. This match will be their 5th match this year! Serena-Ivanovic was a great rivalry this year. Serena struggled with injuries lately but she looks ready for this tournament. Ana struggled with injuries too but, just like Serena, she’s ready now. Ana is a player with most wins this year but Serena won’t allow her to score another. Serena will play her extremely aggressive game. With her powerful ground-strokes and massive serves she’ll control a lot of rallies. However, Ana showed this year that she’s not afraid of Williams. She’ll use her atomic forehand and variations to fight against Williams. Both players are fast and they have good court coverage. Ana will maybe take a set but healthy Serena is just too powerful and flawless.

Prediction: Serena in 3 sets

Eugenie Bouchard vs Simona Halep

Eugenie had her breakthrough year, she played especially well at Grand Slams. She reached a 2nd week of all four of them. She won 1 title this year (Nurnberg); reached 2 finals( Wimbledon and Wuhan); 3 SFs( Australian Open, Charleston and French Open) and 2 QFs( Acapulco and Oeiras). She had 9 1st round exits but like I said, she was very consistent at Slams. Simona had her breakthrough year too, but she showed some indications when she won her 1st six titles last year. She won 2 titles this year( Doha and Bucharest ), reached 2 finals( Madrid and French Open), 2 SFs( Indian Wells and Wimbledon) and 3 QFs( Australian Open, Cincinnati and Beijing). Great year for Simona but she’s struggling with her form lately, mostly because of injuries. These two played two times and their head-to-head is 1-1. Their both matches were played this year. Halep won their 1st match in the 4th round of Indian Wells 6-2 1-6 6-4. Bouchard avenged her loss in the SFs of Wimbledon 7-6(5) 6-2. Simona and Eugenie are playing their 1st YEC. I think that both truly deserve their place here. Eugenie will be the aggressor in this match. She takes a ball early so Simona won’t have a lot of time to react. Bouchard have flat and powerful shots and she’s really dangerous when she’s on. With some steady shots and drive volleys she have what it takes to beat Halep. Simona is aggressive baseliner. She’s really fast and she can easily turn defence into offense. She have good forehand and solid backhand. I’m not sure that Simona is fully recovered because she’s struggling with injuries since Bucharest so I’ll give Bouchard the advantage. I think that Simona will fight until the end but Bouchard will take this match in two sets.

Prediction: Bouchard in 2 very tight sets

I can’t hide how excited I am right now. This group is just awesome! 😀

~ Serena and Ana will play their FIFTH match this year. It was one of the most interesting rivalries of the year!

~ Simo and Genie will play their 3rd match this year. Battle of future world no.1’s  in my opinion!

~ Serena will play against Simona and Eugenie for the first time this year. Simply amazing!

~ Ana will play against Simona and Eugenie. Chance to avenge her losses to both of them this year!

See y’all tomorrow! I’m hoping that we’ll all enjoy in all of these matches! 🙂

Tomorrow : Predictions for Sharapova – Wozniacki and Kvitova – Radwanska! 🙂

Tokyo, Seoul 2014 – Finals

Wuhan is starting tomorrow, but I don’t have time to write analysis for the 1st day of that tournament. I’ll just write predictions. I have to write my article about Na Li’s retirement and predictions and analysis for Monday. Keep reading my blog, I’ll keep writing. 🙂

Ana Ivanovic vs Caroline Wozniacki

Ana played amazing at this tournament. In the first round, she had a bye. In the second round she beaten former world no.1 Victoria Azarenka in 2 sets – 6:3 6:4. Then she beaten her nemesis Lucie Safarova 6:3 6:2. And finally, in the SFs, she beaten no.1 seed Angeliquer Kerber 7:5 6:3. Ivanovic played great in all of her matches. Wozniacki had a bye in the first round too. Then she beaten qualifier and former top 30 player Jarmila Gajdosova after comeback 4:6 7:5 6:3. In the QFs, she beaten Carla Suarez Navarro who had amazing year in 2 sets – 6:3 6:3. And finally, in the SFs, she beaten rising star Garbine Muguruza in 3 sets – 6:4 2:6 6:2. Wozniacki played great in all of her matches except her 2nd round match. Ana will be the aggressor in this match. She’ll use her biggest weapon( forehand ) to control the points. Her variations will help her to stay in longer rallies with Caroline. Wozniacki will play her patient game and she’ll get back lot of Ana’s shots. Both players are in amazing form, but I believe that Ana will be stronger and that she’ll win her 4th title this year. We’ll see what will happen.

Prediction: Ivanovic in 3 sets

Karolina Pliskova vs Varvara Lepchenko

Pliskova reached her 2nd final in 2 weeks. Wow! She played pretty good at this tournament. In the 1st round, she beaten aggressive Julia Glushko 6:1 6:2. In the second round, she beaten rising star Anna-Lena Friedsam in 3 sets – 6:4 6:7(5) 6:2. Then, in the QFs, she beaten qualifier Nicole Gibbs 6:3 6:4. And finally, in the SFs, she beaten always-dangerous Maria Kirilenko after comeback 4:6 7:6(5) 6:3. She played solid in all of her matches. Lepchenko beaten Australia’s Olivia Rogowska 6:1 6:2. Then she beaten wild card Han 7:5 6:1. In the QFs, she pulled upset of the tournament by beating no.1 seed Agnieszka Radwanska after comeback – 6:7(4) 6:2 6:2. And finally, in the SFs, she beaten fellow American Christina McHale 3:6 6:1 7:6(5).  Lepchenko saved match point when she was 4-5 down in the 3rd set. Overall, Varvara played pretty good in all of her matches. Both players are playing very aggressive. Pliskova have powerful serve and massive groundstrokes. Her main weakness is her movement. Lepchenko have tricky left-handed shots and serves. Both players are in pretty good form this year, but I think that it’s time for Karolina to win her 2nd WTA title. She played in 3 finals this year – this is 4th!

Prediction: Pliskova in 3 tight sets

Svitolina df. Giorgi in 3 sets

Riske df. Xu in 2 sets

Zahlavova-Strycova df. Hantuchova in 2 sets

Makarova df. Jovanovski in 2 sets

Diyas df. Koukalova in 3 sets

Kuznetsova df. Nara in 3 tight sets

Erakovic df. Knapp in 3 sets

Schiavone df. Flipkens in 3 tight sets

Venus df. Garcia in 2 sets

Petkovic df. Vekic in 2 sets( one tight, one easy )

Tokyo, Seoul 2014 – SFs, Guangzhou 2014 – final

Angelique Kerber vs Ana Ivanovic

572Japan Pan Pacific Open Tennis TENNIS-WTA-JPN

Both players were amazing in their quarter-final matches. Kerber beaten Dominika Cibulkova 6:3 6:0. Pretty impressive score. Ivanovic beaten Lucie Safarova 6:3 6:2. Ana played great too. Both players have very good season, especially Ana. Neither of them lost a set for the whole tournament.  These two are playing totally different types of tennis. Kerber is mostly defensive. She likes to stay behind the baseline and from there she can counter even the most powerful shots. She can play aggressive too and she’s good at it, but she’s better in defense. She’s capable of playing good dropshots and passing shots too. Ana is an aggressive players. She have more variations than Kerber. Her main weapon is her forehand, but her game is very well backed-up with her solid backhand, good slices, drop shots and good net play. She improved her movement a lot this year. This match will be full of winners and spectacular shots. This will be tight match, but Ana is in better form now, so I believe she’ll reach the finals here!

Prediction: Ivanovic in 3 sets

Alize Cornet vs Monica Niculescu

558544-la-francaise-alize-cornet-contre-l-australienne-samantha-stosur-au-1er-tour-du-tournoi-de-tokyo-le-22014 Australian Open - Day 1

Cornet didn’t play great in Guangzhou, but she still managed to reach finals! She beaten Timea Bacsinszky in the SFs 6:1 7:6(5). Niculescu played amazing for the whole tournament. She didn’t drop more than 4 games in any of her matches in Guangzhou. In the SFs, she beaten Yafan Wang 6:0 6:2! This match should be spectacular. Cornet is one of the drama queens and Niculescu have unique play style. I can’t wait to watch this. Cornet will play  aggressive game. She will use her topspin forehand and good backhand to control points. Her good movement and drop shots will back up her aggressive game. Monica will use her play style to disrupt Alize’s rhythm. With lot of moonballs, wicked slices, hidden drop shots and some good net play and defense, Niculescu will make Alize fight for every single point. Cornet struggled with heat this weak and maybe Monica can use it. Niculescu played better at this tournament than Cornet, so I believe she’ll take the title in the Guangzhou.

Prediction: Niculescu in 2 tight sets

Karolina Pliskova vs Maria Kirilenko

Pliskova played solid in her last match. She beaten Nicole Gibbs 6:3 6:4. She had pretty good season overall. Kirilenko won another three-setter in the QFs. She beaten Kaia Kanepi 6:7(3) 6:2 6:3. Kirilenko finally found some good form and she’s playing pretty good in this moment. Both players are playing aggressive tennis. Pliskova is more powerful, but Kirilenko is faster! Pliskova will use her massive serves and powerful groundstrokes to control the points. Her main weakness is her robotic movement. Kirilenko must exploit it. She needs to play aggressive and consistent. With that type of play, she should be able to move Pliskova around and to draw errors from her. Karolina is not really famous because of her fighting spirit, so Maria can use it too. If Pliskova becomes impatient, it’s a chance for Kirilenko. With her steady shots and fighting spirit, Maria should be able to win this match.

Prediction: Kirilenko in 3 tight sets

Cara Black/Sania Mirza vs Garbine Muguruza/ Carla Suarez Navarro

Sania-Mirza-and-Cara-Black-img18582_668 0,,12781~12883562,00

Black and Mirza are playing together for a long time and they’re really good team. In the first round, they beaten DellAcqua and Raymond 6:3 3:6 10:8. It was really tight match, but Black and Mirza survived. In the OFs, they beaten Hingis and Bencic, this time in two sets – 6:4 6:2. In the SFs they beaten Jankovic and Parra Santonja in two sets too – 6:3 6:2. They won all of their matches easily, except their 1st round match. Muguruza and Navarro beaten Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova in the first round in a tight three sets – 6:3 4:6 10:7.  QFs was as hard as their first round match. They beaten Gajdosova and Rodionova 7:5 4:6 10:4. Their SF match was probably the easiest one. Ranking said different thing, but result showed why it was the easiest one. They beaten Kops-Jones and Spears in TWO SETS 6:4 6:3. Muguruza and Navarro play their best tennis on the clay, but they are good on the other surfaces too. Black and Mirza are experienced doubles team. They will play aggressive and they’ll use their connection to beat Navarro and Muguruza. Muguruza and Navarro are good team. They represent good balance of offense and defence, but I think that Mirza and Black are just too good.

Prediction: Black/Mirza in 3 sets

Other predictions:

Tokyo, Seoul, Guangzhou 2014 – QFs and SFs

Angelique Kerber vs Dominika Cibulkova

628x471 dominika-cibulkova-tokyo_3204697

Angelique had solid season, but she wasn’t really good at the US Open. She lost in the third round to Bencic 1:6 5:7. Kerber beaten Svitolina in the 2nd round 6:4 6:4 in Tokyo. Dominika finally started winning some matches and it looks like she’s back! She beaten Vandeweghe in the previous round 7:6(5) 7:5. Cibulkova leads against Kerber in their head-2-head 4-2, but Kerber won their last two matches in straight sets. Dominika will be the aggressor in this match. Her explosive shots will make Kerber run all over the court. Her forehand is especially good. Angelique will be mostly in defense. She’ll counter Dominika’s massive shots with her flat, but accurate shots. Kerber will chase down everything she can and she’ll force Dominika to commit unforced errors. Angelique can play really good in offense too. Both players still have a chance to play in Singapore and they’ll fight until the end. I think that Kerber will edge Dominika in the end.

Prediction: Kerber in 3 sets

Ana Ivanovic vs Lucie Safarova

IvanovicTokyoR2 w3-tennis-a-20140918-870x562

Ana had amazing season, but she’s really struggling at the Grand Slams. She lost to Pliskova at the US Open in the 2nd round in straight sets. Ana was impressive in her last match. She beaten Azarenka in straight sets. Lucie had amazing season too, highlighted by her SF appearance at the Wimbledon. In the previous round, she beaten rising star Bencic after a comeback 3:6 6:4 6:2. Ivanovic is favorite here, but she’s playing against her nemesis. Lucie leads in their head-2-head 5-2. Ana won first two matches, but Lucie won last five! Both players are playing pretty aggressive. Ana’s main weapon will be her atomic forehand. She’ll use lot of variations in her game – slices, drop shots, net play and passing shots. Ana improved her movement a lot this year. Safarova will use her tricky serve and her unpredictable, but powerful shots to fight against Ivanovic. I’m not sure how this match will end, but I believe that Ivanovic will come trough.

Prediction: Ivanovic in 3 tight sets

Kaia Kanepi vs Maria Kirilenko

kaia-kanepi-67538270 Maria+Kirilenko+WTA+Dubai+Duty+Free+Tennis+0tfY2ye2-r9l

Kaia’s season wasn’t really good before Wimbledon, but after that she’s playing very well. She struggled against Krystina Pliskova in the previous round, but she managed to win that match 3:6 6:3 6:2. Maria’s season was destroyed by her injury, but she looks like she’s back now. She beaten Klara Koukalova in the 2nd round 6:7(4) 6:4 6:0. This match should be very interesting. Both players are playing aggressive, but Kaia is more powerful. With her massive groundstrokes and good serves she’ll control a lot of things. However, Maria won’t just sit down and watch how Kanepi is making winners. She’ll make some by herself. Maria will play patient and aggressive. But honestly, I don’t think that she’s ready to beat Kanepi. She needs more matches under her belt.

Prediction: Kanepi in 2 tight sets

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Varvara Lepchenko

Agnieszka-Radwanska-2014_3130294 article

Radwanska’s season was full of ups and downs. She lost in the second round of the US Open to Shuai Peng in straight sets. In the second round of Seoul, she gave Chanelle Sheepers a double-bagel. Lepchenko had solid season. She lost in the third round of the US Open to eventual champion Serena Williams 3:6 3:6, but it was very good match for Varvara. In the previous round, she beaten Han 7:5 6:1 after she saved set point in the first set. These two played once this year and Varvara actually won in three sets in Stanford. Radwanska will play her game. She’ll use her trick shots to disrupt Lepchenko’s rhythm and she’ll be very consistent as almost always. Lepchenko will play aggressive and her main weapon is that she’s playing with left hand. Agnieszka almost always struggles against lefties. However, I think that Radwanska will be more patient and steady and that she’ll win this match. Lepchenko won’t give Agnieszka an easy victory, so anything is possible.

Prediction: Radwanska in 3 sets

Other predictions:

Tokyo, Seoul, Guangzhou 2014 – day 3

Ana Ivanovic vs Victoria Azarenka

Wow. This is an amazing second round match. Ivanovic vs Azarenka. This is Ana’s first match since she lost to Pliskova in the 2nd round of the US Open. Victoria beaten Kimiko Date-Krumm in the first round in 3 sets! Kimiko got tired and injured and that’s main reason why Vika won 2nd and 3rd set easily. Ana is a powerful hard-hitter with atomic forehand and lot of variations. Azarenka is a patient hard-hitter,but with less variations than Ivanovic. Ana had amazing year, Victoria had bad year. Azarenka’s injury really destroyed her season of 2014. Ana is in better form now, so I believe she’ll beat Azarenka in 2 sets.

Prediction: Ivanovic in 2 sets

Lucie Safarova vs Belinda Bencic

1791191-img-sport-tenis-wimbledon-safarova belinda-bencic-640

Lucie struggled against Keys in the first round. She beaten her 6:7(5) 6:4 6:2. Belinda destroyed Kuznetsova 6:3 6:0. Both ladies are in good form in this moment, especially Bencic. Lucie will play her game. She’ll be aggressive, she’ll go for her shots and she’ll use her tricky slice serve. Bencic is playing mostly aggressive, but her game is full of variations and she really have all shots. Lucie have experience on her side, but Bencic is in better form. I think that Bencic will win this match, but it won’t be easy. Lucie won’t surrender easily.

Prediction: Bencic in 3 sets

Angelique Kerber vs Elina Svitolina

?????? Elina+Svitolina+Internazionali+BNL+Italia+mgQMHtbDH8Yl

This is Kerber’s first match since she lost to Bencic in the 3rd round of the US Open. Svitolina showed solid form in her first match. She beaten Zahlavova-Strycova 6:4 6:1. I noticed that Kerber is always struggling in her first matches at some tournament( Vandeweghe, Pervak etc. ). I think that this won’t be different. Svitolina is a dangerous young player who have steady, but powerful shots.Kerber is a counterpuncher and you need to hit through her if you want to beat her. Svitolina have the weapons, but Kerber have experience on her side. This will be close match, but I think that Angelique will win.

Prediction: Kerber in 3 tight sets

Christina McHale vs Mona Barthel

Christina Mchale 1Mona-Barthel_teaser_620x420

McHale was good in her first round match. She beaten Arruabarrena 6:2 6:3. Mona was good too. She beaten Garcia 7:6(3) 6:2. In this match, Mona will be the aggressor. With her massive shots she will be able to control the game. Christina can play aggressive, but she’s better in defence. She have topspin forehand and solid backhand. If Mona can stay calm she can win this. Christina will force Mona to hit that extra ball and if Mona stay steady, she will reach QFs. It won’t be easy because McHale is a good player, but I believe that Mona will clinch this.

Prediction: Barthel in 3 sets
