Another long and exciting match. Radwanska came back from 1-5 and 3 match points down in 2nd set, but Sharapova eventually prevailed in 3rd set. That 2nd set that Agnieszka managed to win gave her a ticket to the SFs!
I don’t know what to say. Matches are impossible to predict. I don’t know how to write my predictions anymore. Today, Simona Halep beaten Serena Williams 6-0 6-2!!! Current world no. 1 played probably worst match ever but Simona played very solid. Williams just couldn’t find the court with her shots and her movement was poor, especially in the first set. Match between Serena and Simona is still haunting me. New era has come! Later that day, Ana Ivanovic defeated Eugenie Bouchard 6-1 6-3. It was great performance by Ana and again, poor performance by Bouchard. She played a little bit better than against Simona but Canadian was still far away from her best. Today I’ll do short predictions without pictures because I’m not ready to write my full predictions yet. Serena vs Halep really proved me that matches are IMPOSSIBLE to predict. I’m hoping that I’ll be right about these 3 matches. I’ll write my standard predictions tomorrow. Thank you for reading my blog and for supporting me. Love y’all ! 🙂
~Agnieszka Radwanska df. Caroline Wozniacki in 3 sets — This is really risky pick but I’ll believe in Aga this time. She played amazing against Petra and she have a chance to win this match too. Caro played very solid against Maria but Radwanska won’t defeat herself like Sharapova. Wozniacki can win this but I’m choosing Agnieszka this time!
~Maria Sharapova df. Petra Kvitova in 3 tight sets — Maria played bad against Wozniacki but she showed great fighting spirit and desire. Petra was far from her best but I think she’ll play better against Maria. Both are powerful but Maria is stronger mentally so I believe she’ll win this in the end. She’ll be extra motivated because she can become world no. 1 after this tournament!
~Serena Williams df. Eugenie Bouchard in 2 very tight sets — Something is telling me that Serena is still not done here. She played poor against Halep but she can bounce back against out-of-form Bouchard. Williams at least played good against Ivanovic. Eugenie played poor in both of her matches. I think that Serena will win but anything is possible. Maybe Serena have some injury or illness. Maybe Kerber will play this match instead of Serena. Who knows!? Probably no one.
Maria had fantastic season, especially on the clay courts. She won 4 titles( Stuttgart, Madrid, French Open and Beijing ) and reached 4 SFs( Brisbane, Paris, Miami and Cincinnati) . She had few shocking losses( Bacsinszky, Giorgi etc. ) but Sharapova had great year overall. Caro had a great year too. Before Wimbledon she wasn’t in great form but she was on fire after that. She won 1 title( Istanbul ); reached 2 finals( US Open and Tokyo ); 5 SFs( Dubai, Monterrey, Eastbourne, Cincinnati and Wuhan) and 2 QFs( Miami and Montreal). Wozniacki is now playing her best tennis again. Maria leads in their head-2-head but Caroline won their only match this year. Wozniacki beaten Sharapova in 4th round of the US Open 6-4 2-6 6-2. Sharapova will be the aggressor in this match. With her massive groundstrokes she will be able to control most of the rallies. She improved her movement a lot and she covers the baseline very well. She’s probably mentally strongest WTA player in this moment. Wozniacki is playing her defensive tennis very well but now she is able to be aggressive when she wants. She’s really fast and she have a really good serve. With some good net play, Caroline is a tricky opponent for Maria. This will be tight match but Maria will manage to win it in the end.
Prediction: Sharapova in 3 tight sets
Agnieszka Radwanska vs Petra Kvitova
Agnieszka’s season was full of ups and downs but she had some great results, especially before French Open. She won 1 title( Montreal ); reached 1 final( Indian Wells ); 4 SFs( Australian Open, Doha, Katowice and Madrid ) and 5 QFs( Miami, Stuttgart, Rome,Cincinnati and Seoul). She’s coming to Singapore with low confidence but maybe she can turn around her bad form here. Petra’s season before Wimbledon was forgettable but after that, she’s playing amazing. She won 3 titles( Wimbledon, New Haven and Wuhan ); reached 1 final( Beijing ); 2 SFs( Sydney and Madrid) and 3 QFs( Doha, Miami and Eastbourne ). She had a lot of shocking losses but she recovered well. Kvitova leads against Radwanska in their head-2-head 5-1 but their last match was last year. Radwanska is just powerless against really powerful hitters like Kvitova and Serena. Petra will play her standard risky game. Her massive serves and strokes will allow her to control almost every rally. She added some slices, drop shots and net play in her game and it’s very nice to see some tricks that will make Petra’s game even more effective. When she’s on, she’s unstoppable. But when she can’t find her shots, she’s very beatable. Aga is probably hoping that Petra will play her self-destructive game. Radwanska will try to disrupt Petra’s rhythm with her endless retrieving and some magical shots. Radwanska form is really questionable because her last losses were against Vinci, Garcia and Lepchenko. Playing well or not, I think that Petra won’t have any problems against Radwanska.
Prediction: Kvitova in 2 sets
BONUS!!! – Battle of WTA rising stars( Finals )
Monica Puig df. Saisai Zheng in super tie-break
~Serena Williams df. Ana Ivanovic 6-4 6-4 — Great match with lot of amazing rallies. Main difference was that Serena had 12 aces and 4 double faultsa while Ana had o aces and 7 double faults. Serena is hungry. She really wants this title!
~Simona Halep df. Eugenie Bouchard 6-2 6-3 — Solid match by Simona but Bouchard was totally out of her rhythm. Both had 11 winners but Halep had 11 unforced errors while Eugenie had 30! Very weak performance by Canadian.
Maria is not playing well after her French Open title. She defeated a couple of good opponents, but she’s far from her best. Her last loss was really shocking. She lost to Bacsinszky in 2 tight sets in 3rd round of Wuhan. The credit has to be given to Timea who really played great, but Maria made a lot of errors too. Kaia is playing really well in this moment. She needed some confidence to start playing well again. And she got it when she beaten Jelena Jankovic at Wimbledon. She had a couple of good results including 4th round showing at US Open and QF showings in Bastad and Seoul. Both players are playing really aggressive. Both are really powerful, but Maria is stronger mentally. Kaia will push Sharapova to her limits, but Maria will come back again and she’ll win this hard-hitting battle.
Prediction: Sharapova in 3 tight sets
Ekaterina Makarova vs Garbine Muguruza
Makarova is in great form this year. She had some really great results and victories highlighted by her SF showing at the US Open and QF showing at Wimbledon. However, she lost her 2nd round match in Wuhan to an in-form Bacsinszky. Timea is in good form, but Makarova’s form is questionable. I think she’ll play good again in this match. Muguruza is in great form, but she was hampered by illness in Wuhan. She beaten lot of good players this year – Serena, Halep, Wozniacki, Jankovic etc. This match will be very exciting. Makarova is left-handed and she’s patient hard-hitter who waits for her opportunities to attack. Muguruza is a hard-hitter who takes the ball early and she’s really aggressive. I’m not sure who’ll win this, but Muguruza is in great form so I think her power won’t let Ekaterina find her rhythm.
Prediction: Muguruza in 3 sets
Svetlana Kuznetsova vs Daniela Hantuchova
Svetlana’s year was full of ups and downs. She had some good victories(Halep etc.) and some shocking losses(Erakovic etc.) . She reached 2nd round in Wuhan where she lost to Sharapova in 3 sets. It was really interesting match and Svetlana was fighting really well. Daniela’s form this year is pretty much poor. I think that her career is not going up anymore. She didn’t beat any really good player this year and she’s struggling to beat even low ranked opponents. Svetlana’s tricky topspin shots and her powerful baseline game won’t allow Hantuchova to come to the net. Daniela will try to hit the winners from the baseline in that case, she’ll go for too much and she’ll make a lot of errors. Kuznetsova should be able to beat Hantuchova without lot of problems.
Prediction: Kuznetsova in 2 sets
Sara Errani vs Kurumi Nara
Errani’s form was full of ups and downs too. Apart from clay( and from Paris and US Open) she had not done almost anything. Her last 2 losses were against Erakovic and Riske in STRAIGHT SETS. I must mention that Sara barely won one game against Wozniacki in the QFs of the US Open, so I can say that Sara’s form is not really great. Nara’s year was really good, but she’s not really consistent. She have a high-quality game and she can be a real threat to anyone when she’s on. However, she eaten a lot of bagels and bread sticks this year. Sara will be mostly in defense. She’ll defend with her topspin shots and some tricky slices. Nara will go for her shots and she’ll be the aggressor in this match. I think that this match won’t be nice for watching and that we’ll see a lot of errors from both, but I think that Nara will prevail in the end. We’ll see what will happen.
Prediction: Nara in 3 sets
Stosur df. Schiavone in 3 sets
Venus df. Watson in 2 tight sets
Halep df. Zahlavova-Strycova in 2 sets
Kerber df. DellAcqua in 3 sets
Vinci df. Shvedova in 3 sets
Petkovic df. Niculescu in 3 tight sets
Pliskova df. Hercog in 2 sets( one tight, one easy )
~Aleksandra Krunic beaten no.3 seed Petra Kvitova 6:4 6:4. Aleksandra played amazing, she chased down everything, even those massive shots from Petra. I’m really surprised that this girl was no. 145 before this tournament. She’ll enter top 100 after the US Open for the first time in her career. Well done! 🙂
~Kaia Kanepi beaten no. 15 seed Carla Suarez Navarro 7:5 6:0. Kaia played very aggressive. Looks like she’s getting back in her form of the last year! 🙂
~Casey DellAcqua beaten Karolina Pliskova in a marathon 6:3 3:6 6:4. Casey played calm and steady and this is second time this year that DellAcqua reached second week of a Grand Slam. Well done Casey! 🙂
~Eugenie Bouchard survived another marathon against Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova 6:2 6:7(2) 6:4. Interesting thing is that Bouchard beaten Cirstea by the same score. The only thing that was different was the result in the tie-break.
Time for predictions! 🙂
Maria Sharapova vs Caroline Wozniacki
Wow! This will be epic! Maria played solid match against Lisicki. She won 6:2 6:4. Wozniacki was amazing in her match against Petkovic, she won 6:3 6:4. Maria will control points with her powerful shots from both sides. Caroline will play steady and patient tennis. With her well-angled shots she can force Maria to play more risky and she’ll make more errors. Maria wasn’t on her best since Roland Garros, but she is a huge fighter and she’ll find a way to win this match, but it won’t be easy. If Maria plays her steady tennis in the end of the match, victory will be hers.
Prediction: Sharapova in 3 very tight sets
Jelena Jankovic vs Belinda Bencic
Both players played amazing in their third round matches. Jelena destroyed Johanna Larsson 6:1 6:0. Belinda beaten Angelique Kerber in a high-quality match 6:1 7:5. Belinda saved 5 set points in the second set. This will be interesting match, both players can play good offensive and defensive tennis. Both players have similar play style, but biggest difference is that Jankovic have better serve. Belinda have strong forehand and backhand, while Jankovic have massive backhand, but solid forehand. This will be close match, but I believe that experience will prevail and that Jankovic will win this tight battle.
Prediction: Jankovic in 3 sets
Sara Errani vs Mirjana Lucic-Baroni
Sara survided amazing battle against Venus Williams 6:0 0:6 7:6(5). Sara’s fighting spirit gave her this victory. Mirjana was amazing in her victory over world no.2 Simona Halep 7:6(6) 6:2. Almost everyone believe that Sara will win this, but Mirjana played amazing against world no. 2 and she’s really confident at the moment. Sara plays patient tennis with lot of variations. Her biggest weapon is her topspin forehand. Mirjana plays risky and powerful tennis and her biggest weapon is her forehand too, but her forehand is very flat. Mirjana is confident at this moment and she was in the semi-final of the Grand Slam before, so I believe she will manage to win this. Who knows, maybe she’ll reach SFs again! 😉
Prediction: Lucic-Baroni in 3 tight sets
Lucie Safarova vs Shuai Peng
Lucie Safarova struggled against Alize Cornet in the third round, but she won 6:3 6:7(3) 6:4. This shows how Lucie has improved mentally this year.Peng played very well against Roberta Vinci, she won 6:4 6:3. This will be interesting match. Both players play very aggressive tennis. Lucie is left-handed and she have better serve than Peng. However, Shuai is capable of playing unpredictable shots. She can play powerful tennis, but she have good drops shot and net play too. This will be another close match, but Peng didn’t lose a set whole week and Lucie lost two sets in her last two matches, so I believe that Peng will manage to win this!
Prediction: Peng in 3 sets
I predicted that every match today will be three-setter. Will it happen? We’ll find out today! 🙂
~Vote for a player who will win US Open in your opinion!
Serena leads with 33 votes, Jankovic is second with 12 and Sharapova is third with 7 votes.
Note: Kvitova and Navarro are deleted from the poll because they lost their 3rd round matches yesterday! 🙂
~Karolina Pliskova beaten seed no. 8 Ana Ivanovic 7:5 6:4. Ivanovic really struggles at the Grand Slams this year, but Karolina played great match.
~Nicole Gibbs beaten Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6:4 6:7(6) 6:3. Solid win for Nicole, but Pavs made too many errors.
~Aleksandra Krunic beaten American hope Madison Keys 7:6(4) 2:6 7:5. Krunic saved 5 set points in the first set. Even thought Madison wasn’t on her best, great win for Aleksandra anyway!
~Kaia Kanepi beaten Samantha Stosur 3:6 6:3 7:6(8). Kanepi saved 2 MPs. Good victory for Kaia.
~Zarina Diyas beaten 15-year old CiCi Bellis( girl who won against Cibulkova) 6:3 0:6 6:2. Rollercoaster match, but still good tournament for young American CiCi.
~Eugenie Bouchard survived Sorana Cirstea 6:2 6:7(4) 6:4. Very interesting match, Sorana finally started playing some good tennis.
Here we go…Predictions! 🙂
Maria Sharapova vs Sabine Lisicki
Sharapova barely beaten Dulgheru 4:6 6:3 6:2. Maria didn’t play well, but she fought hard and she won. Sabine beaten Brengle 6:4 6:1. She played pretty well. This is a fantastic 3rd round match. Sabine have good serve, powerful flat strokes and good drop shot. Maria’s shots are not that flat, but she can keep attacking consistently. If Lisicki can play calm and aggressive, she can actually win this. However, Maria is just too stable in the end, so I don’t think that Sabine can cause an upset here. This will be close match, but Maria will survive this battle!
Prediction: Sharapova in 3 sets
Sara Errani vs Venus Williams
Sara finally started winning consecutive matches on the faster surfaces. She beaten Anastasia Rodionova in the 2nd round. It was solid performance from Sara. Venus played very good against Timea. We all know that Venus will be the one who is deciding everything – she’ll produce winners, she will make errors! Sara will keep pushing the ball in the court with her topspin and slice shots and she’ll chase down everything she can. Venus need to play calm and aggressive. After powerful shot, she must come to the net. Sara’s lack of power is exposed on the faster surfaces and i believe that Venus will finally reach second week of the Grand Slam for the first time since Wimbledon 2011.
Prediction: Venus in 3 sets
Shuai Peng vs Roberta Vinci
Peng Shuai played amazing against Radwanska. She beaten Agnieszka in straight sets! Roberta struggled against Camelia begu, eventually winning that match 2:6 6:4 6:1. Peng will be more aggressive that Roberta because Peng is capable of producing powerful winner from both sides. Roberta have powerful forehand, slice backhand and good net play. This two players are biggest rivals in doubles which makes this match even more interesting. If Peng plays calm and if Roberta’s slices can’t affect Shuai’s mind, I think that Peng will reach another 4th round of the Grand Slam this year.
Prediction: Peng in 2 tight sets
Lucie Safarova vs Alize Cornet
Lucie struggled against Saisai Zheng, but it was only because it’s hard for Lucie to deal with moonballs. Cornet played solid against Hantuchova, but Daniela is not playing well anymore. Lucie have powerful and unpredictable shots and good slice serve. Cornet have good topspin forehand, solid backhand and she’s using drop shots and slices very well. If Lucie can stay calm she can win this. This will be interesting match, but Lucie is more steadier now, so she’ll win this, but it won’t be easy.
Prediction: Safarova in 3 tight sets
Jankovic df. Larsson in 2 sets
Kerber df. Bencic in 2 tight sets
Halep df. Lucic-Baroni in 2 sets
Wozniacki df. Petkovic in 2 tight sets
~Vote for a player who will win US Open in your oppinion! 🙂
Serena leads with 23 votes, Halep is second with 21 and Lisicki is third with 7 votes!
Note: Ivanovic and Stosur are deleted from the poll because they lost their matches yesterday! 🙂
I can’t hide how excited I am about last Grand Slam of the season 2014. Today I will analyse five matches instead of four, because there’s lot of great matches! When you read my predictions, you can vote for a player who will win US Open 2014 in your opinion on the bottom of the page 🙂
Venus Williams vs Kimiko Date-Krumm
When we mention these two, It’s hard not to remember their fantastic match at Wimbledon 2011. One of the best matches ever! Venus showed her good form in Montreal where she reached finals. Kimiko struggles with her form lately, but it’s not surprising. She’ 43! I think that both ladies can show how it’s important to never give up. Venus will control game with her massive shots. Kimiko will chase down everything she can and she’ll wait for opportunity to absorb Venus’ power and send even more powerful shot. Kimiko has good hands at the net, flat strokes, good slice and good drop shot. However, I think that she will be able to handle pressure of Williams’ power just for one set. This will be fun match to watch, but Venus should have no problem to win this.
Prediction: Venus in 2 sets( one tight, one easy )
Maria Sharapova vs Maria Kirilenko
Maria plays against Maria! Sharapova had fantastic year highlighted with her victory at French Open. Kirilenko, however, struggles with her form. She showed that she’s still capable of playing well in her match against Stephens which was fantastic. Kirilenko needs to play patient and aggressive if she wants to harm Sharapova. Sharapova is more powerful of these two, so she’ll be the aggressor in this match. Kirilenko need to slow down rallies with her two-handed slice and to try to draw errors from Maria. This will be close match, but Maria will win it in two sets.
Prediction: Sharapova in 2 tight sets
Jelena Jankovic vs Bojana Jovanovski
Two Serbs plays against each other for fourth time. Jankovic leads 2-1. Jankovic had solid year, but she struggles with form lately. Jovanovski had solid year too, but I know that she is capable of doing more damage on the WTA tour. Jovanovski is not that powerful like Serena or others, but she’s really aggressive and patient. However, Bojana’s game is one-sided. She’s just a baseliner and she only hits normal shots without some variations. She’s pretty powerless at the net. Jelena needs to exploit Bojana’s weaknesses with lot of variations. With deep balls, drop shots and going to the net she’ll make Bojana nervous. Jankovic can control game with her massive backhand too. Jovanovski will fight till the bitter end, but JJ will win this in two.
Prediction: Jankovic in 2 sets
Shuai Peng vs Jie Zheng
Peng against Zheng. This should be interesting. This two met last time in 2010. Both players are aggressive and they love to play on the grass. Peng have two-handed forehand, unpredictable shots and she’s good at the net.Her favorite shot is forehand, but her backhand is her better shot. She have good drop shot too. Zheng is aggressive and quick around the court. Her better shot is forehand which is more powerful. In this match, lot of points will be very interesting and creative. Peng is in better form this year, so I believe she’ll win this. However, Zheng plays her best tennis at Grand Slams and maybe she’ll surprise us.
Prediction: Peng in 3 sets
Sabine Lisicki vs Francoise Abanda
I was really hoping that Abanda will get some easy opponent in first round, but that didn’t happen. Abanda played amazing in qualies, losing just six games in 3 matches! However, main draw is something different. Lisicki is very hard opponent. Sabine have powerful flat strokes and she knows to surprise her opponent with drop shots. Abanda have powerful forehand and solid net skills. The only chance that Abanda have is that Lisicki don’t know her play style. Francoise will show flashes of brilliance, but Lisicki will prevail in two.
