WTA Finals in Singapore 2014 – Maria vs Caroline, Petra vs Agnieszka

Maria Sharapova vs Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki

Maria had fantastic season, especially on the clay courts. She won 4 titles( Stuttgart, Madrid, French Open and Beijing ) and reached 4 SFs( Brisbane, Paris, Miami and Cincinnati) . She had few shocking losses( Bacsinszky, Giorgi etc. ) but Sharapova had great year overall. Caro had a great year too. Before Wimbledon she wasn’t in great form but she was on fire after that. She won 1 title( Istanbul ); reached 2 finals( US Open and Tokyo ); 5 SFs( Dubai, Monterrey, Eastbourne, Cincinnati and Wuhan) and 2 QFs( Miami and Montreal). Wozniacki is now playing her best tennis again. Maria leads in their head-2-head but Caroline won their only match this year. Wozniacki beaten Sharapova in 4th round of the US Open 6-4 2-6 6-2. Sharapova will be the aggressor in this match. With her massive groundstrokes she will be able to control most of the rallies. She improved her movement a lot and she covers the baseline very well. She’s probably mentally strongest WTA player in this moment. Wozniacki is playing her defensive tennis very well but now she is able to be aggressive when she wants. She’s really fast and she have a really good serve. With some good net play, Caroline is a tricky opponent for Maria. This will be tight match but Maria will manage to win it in the end.

Prediction: Sharapova in 3 tight sets

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Petra Kvitova

9744476291

Agnieszka’s season was full of ups and downs but she had some great results, especially before French Open. She won 1 title( Montreal ); reached 1 final( Indian Wells ); 4 SFs( Australian Open, Doha, Katowice and Madrid ) and 5 QFs( Miami, Stuttgart, Rome,Cincinnati and Seoul). She’s coming to Singapore with low confidence but maybe she can turn around her bad form here. Petra’s season before Wimbledon was forgettable but after that, she’s playing amazing. She won 3 titles( Wimbledon, New Haven and Wuhan ); reached 1 final( Beijing ); 2 SFs( Sydney and Madrid) and 3 QFs( Doha, Miami and Eastbourne ). She had a lot of shocking losses but she recovered well. Kvitova leads against Radwanska in their head-2-head 5-1 but their last match was last year. Radwanska is just powerless against really powerful hitters like Kvitova and Serena. Petra will play her standard risky game. Her massive serves and strokes will allow her to control almost every rally. She added some slices, drop shots and net play in her game and it’s very nice to see some tricks that will make Petra’s game even more effective. When she’s on, she’s unstoppable. But when she can’t find her shots, she’s very beatable. Aga is probably hoping that Petra will play her self-destructive game. Radwanska will try to disrupt Petra’s rhythm with her endless retrieving and some magical shots. Radwanska form is really questionable because her last losses were against Vinci, Garcia and Lepchenko. Playing well or not, I think that Petra won’t have any problems against Radwanska.

Prediction: Kvitova in 2 sets

BONUS!!! – Battle of WTA rising stars( Finals )

~Serena Williams df. Ana Ivanovic 6-4 6-4 — Great match with lot of amazing rallies. Main difference was that Serena had 12 aces and 4 double faultsa while Ana had o aces and 7 double faults. Serena is hungry. She really wants this title!

~Simona Halep df. Eugenie Bouchard 6-2 6-3 — Solid match by Simona but Bouchard was totally out of her rhythm. Both had 11 winners but Halep had 11 unforced errors while Eugenie had 30! Very weak performance by Canadian.
